WHAT IS MAASU?
The Midwest Asian American Students Union (MAASU) is a student led organization that began in response to a need for support, political unity, and activism among Asian American students in the Midwest. By 1990, there were more than 20 universities in the Midwest that had formed Asian Pacific Islander American (APIA) organizations; some of these organizations had existed for years, while others were still in their infancy.
MAASU works to recognize the needs of the Asian-American Community by assisting schools with the establishment of Asian American Student Organization and the development of Asian/Pacific-Islander American student leaders. Through addressing the educational needs and rights of the Asian American community and developing widespread channels and networks among many different organizations in the Midwest, MAASU seeks to empower the Asian/Pacific-Islander American community.
The MAASU Spring Conference is an opportunity for APIA students throughout the Midwest to network and engage in workshops dedicated towards promoting political activism and leadership within the community.
